4. Labeling Requirements

This section provides information on labeling requirements and the label approval process.
4.1 Mandatory Labeling Parameters
General foods should follow the labeling requirements in Article 22 of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation [1].
The following are the general labeling requirements:
- Product name
- Name of the ingredients; those that contain two or more ingredients shall indicate the respective ingredients in descending order of proportion
- Net weight, volume, or quantity
- Name of food additives; in the case of a mixture of two or more food additives which are named according to their function shall indicate the name of each additive separately
- Name, telephone number, and address of the manufacturer or that of the responsible domestic company. The tracing sources of the domestic certified agricultural products; and the production systems prescribed by the central agricultural competent authority in a public announcement
- Country of origin
- Expiry date
- Nutrition label
- Genetically modified food raw materials (if applicable)
In addition, companies should also refer to specific labeling information requirements, for example, the criteria for determination of Country of Origin, in the Enforcement Rules of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation [2].

4.2 Languages
The label must be in the Chinese language.
4.3 Mandatory Information on Stickers
According to the Q&A on Food Labeling [4], stickers are allowed as long they can't be easily torn off or fall off.
It is mandatory for product labels to be in the Chinese language. However, it is also acceptable for an additional language such as English to be present.
