8.1 Microbiological Standards

There are no regulatory standards for alcoholic beverages as the concentration of alcohol is sufficient to inhibit microbial growth.

8.2 Contaminants and Heavy Metals

There is no regulation governing the level of heavy metals in alcoholic beverages or in food generally. Manufacturers are expected to keep the level of arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury as low as practicable, typically at parts per billion.

8.3 Pesticides

There are no regulations regarding the limits on pesticide residues in alcoholic beverages. Manufacturers are expected to evaluate the raw materials to ensure that pesticide residue is negligible, typically below the level of quantification.
