6.4 Manufacturing Site Registration

This category follows the EU regulation for Manufacturing Site Registration requirements explained in Section 6.4 of the "General Foods" guidebook for Germany. Additionally, the below applies:

According to Article 6 (2) of regulation EC No. 852/2004, every single establishment of a food business operator must be registered with the competent German authority. The registration takes place at a local competent food control authority. Any food business operator is subject to registration. If a food company consists of several permanent establishments, each establishment has to be registered separately [1]. 

6.4.1 Standard/Rules for Manufacturing Site

The Food Hygiene Regulation (LMHV) of August 8, 2007, regulates hygiene requirements for the production, handling, and placing on the market of foodstuffs [2]:

a) General hygiene requirements: Foodstuffs may only be produced, treated, or placed on the market in such a way that they are not exposed to the risk of adverse effects if the necessary care is taken in their circulation.

b) Training: Employees who produce, handle, or help to place food on the market (with the exception of pre-packaged food) must be appropriately trained. These obligations apply to all food businesses and require hygiene-related training and the necessary level of knowledge for handling the food in question. The requirements for the content of the training are specified for perishable foodstuffs.
