Imports of composite products (foodstuffs containing both products of plant origin and processed products of animal origin) must meet health requirements including hygiene standards, country health approval, approved establishments, official certificates, and official controls. These regulations, outlined in Regulation (EU) 2017/625 [1], mandate that imports come from approved establishments in eligible countries, accompanied by proper certificates, and pass mandatory controls at EU Border Control Posts. Failure to comply can result in suspension of imports or interim protective measures, especially during health emergencies.

Among the documents, composite products must present at the border a private attestation called a ‘Health certificate’, established in Annex V of Commission Implementing Regulation No 2020/2235 [2].

Imported composite food from the UK to the EU shall use the online Export Health Certificates [3].
