In Germany, the federal states are responsible for the enforcement of food regulations, including import regulations. Whether a particular product complies with the legal import regulations must be examined in the overall assessment of the specific product, i.e. taking into account the origin, import certificates, composition, intended purpose, and presentation.
The importer should contact the local competent food control authority. The authority at the location of the food company/importer in Germany is responsible. The addresses of the respective authorities can be obtained from the ministries of the federal states [1].
