6.1 Product Notification

General Food

Other than genetically modified food, food additives, health food, and special dietary food such as food for special medical purposes, there are no premarketing product approval requirements for General Food in Taiwan.

6.2 Product Registration

General Food

The Health Food application procedure is defined [1] and includes an application form for registration of health food and a flowchart on the application for a health food permit.

6.4 Manufacturing Site Registration

General Food

According to the Regulations Governing the Registration of Food Businesses [2], registration of a manufacturing site is required for locally manufactured products. Information required includes:

1. Filing Personnel's basic information
2. Food businesses' basic information
3. Details of factory registration
4. Details of factory or manufacturing site
5. Status of commission or commissioned processing
6. Information on the products to be manufactured and processed
7. Storage place’s basic information
8. Other descriptions relating to manufacturing activities

Category

Alcoholic drinks

According to the Tobacco and Alcohol Administration Act [3], the company needs to obtain a license from the Ministry of Finance before starting an alcohol production business. Companies need to fill out an application form and a production and operations plan and submit them to the central competent authority to apply for a permit of establishment, and within two years from the day on which it obtains the aforesaid permit, shall submit its factory registration and related evidentiary documents to the central competent authority (National Treasury Administration, Ministry of Finance) to apply for issuance of a license permit. Production and operation may begin only after the license permit is obtained.

6.4.1 Standard/Rules for Manufacturing Site

General Food

Taiwan has a Food GMP certification program known as "Total Quality Food" certification, which is administered by Total Quality Food Association [4]. It is not compulsory but companies that participate in the certification are allowed to bear the certification marks on the label.
