6. Registration Processes

This section provides information on any product notification or registration and manufacturing site registration processes.

6.1 Product Notification

When reporting on the manufacturing and processing of food in accordance with Article 45 of the Enforcement Rules of the Food Sanitation Act [1], the food manufacturing company must notify product notification with product manufacturing notification as attached form No. 43 under Article 45 of Enforcement Rule of Food Sanitation Act [1] and relevant documents to permitted through on-site notification or electronic system. 

It must be submitted within 7 days before or after production. In this case, if a food manufacturer/processor is entrusted with manufacturing/processing food, the consignor must submit a product notification.

Documents that should be submitted include: 

  1. Product manufacturing notification according to Article 45 of the Enforcement Rule of Food Sanitation Act [1] 
  2. Explanatory statement of manufacturing process
  3. Statement of reason for setting expiration date

  2. Notifying method: In-person submission or electronic system reporting through Food Safety Country at https://www.foodsafetykorea.go.kr/main.do

6.2 Product Registration

Product registration is not required for food.

6.4 Manufacturing Site Registration

According to Article 43 of the Enforcement Rule of the Food Sanitary Control Act [1]:

1. Authority: Basic local government

2. Process of manufacturing site registration according to attached form No. 41 under Article 43 of the Enforcement Rule of Food Sanitary Control Act or electronic document [1]

  • Application (application form or electronic document) → Review → On-site inspection and facility inspection → Approval → Paying license tax → Registration certificate

3. Documents required

  1. Application form according to attached form No. 41 under Article 43 of the Enforcement Rule of Food Sanitary Control Act) or electronic document [1]
  2. Certificate of hygiene education
  3. Certificate of water quality test (excluding when using tap water)
  4. Food type to be manufactured and manufacturing introductions  

4. Cost: 28000 Korean won

5. Cost of license tax: 27000 Korean won 

6. Duration: 3 days

6.4.1 Standard/Rules for Manufacturing Site

All food must be produced in a HACCP-certified factory. See Article 48 of the Food Sanitation Act [2] and Articles 62 and 63 of the Enforcement Rule of Food Sanitation Act [3].
