5.0 Labelling Requirements

This section provides information on labelling requirements and the label approval process.

5.1 Mandatory Labelling Parameters

“Special Purpose Foods” should comply with the requirements in Section 5.1 in “5.0 Labelling Requirements” of the “General Foods” guidebook.

Additionally, there are other labelling items required for Special Purpose Foods.

Where the ingredient, other than the food additives, added to special purpose food is derived from plant, the common name of the plant shall be stated on the label of that food. Provided it shall not be necessary to indicate the name of the plant from which the ingredient is derived if it can be inferred from the appropriate designation of such ingredient. 

Note that special-purpose food is subject to date marking on the label. [1]


5.2 Languages

All particulars required to appear on the label on the package of Special Purpose Foods shall be in Bahasa Malaysia and may include translation thereof in any other language.

 

5.3 Mandatory Information on Stickers

There is no mandatory information on stickers specific to “Special Purpose Foods”. This category should comply with the requirements in Section 5.3 of “5.0 Labelling Requirements” of the “General Foods” guidebook.
