This section provides information on labeling requirements and the label approval process.

4.1 Mandatory Labeling Parameters

General Feed

Labeling requirements for domestic and imported products [1]:

1. Generic or trade name if applicable.
2. Category (additive, formulated additive, supplement, complete or balanced feed, an ingredient from animal origin, vegetable ingredient, or mineral ingredient, as appropriate).
3. Species(s) of destination and physiological or developmental stage of the animal to be supplied, if applicable.
4. Instructions for use.
5. Storage and sale conditions, if applicable.
6. Date of manufacture and shelf life or expiration date.
7. Batch code.
8. Code and date of SAG authorization of the imported product or SAG Official Number of the national production plant, if applicable.
9. Name and address of the production plant.
10. Name and address of the importer, if applicable.
11. Country of origin.
12. Guarantee. Note: The guarantee is defined as the nutritional value of the feed declared by the producer.
13. List of components, if applicable.
14. Net content.
15. Precautions and warnings, if applicable.
16. Mark prominently: "For Animal Feed Use Only", if applicable.

Category

The category “Additive” should comply with Section 4.1 on “General Feed” above. Additionally, the below applies: 

• Category: "Additive" or "Formulated Additive", as appropriate. [1]

Product

“Formulated Additive” should comply with Section 4.1 on “Category” above. 

4.2 Languages

The information contained in the texts of the labels must be in Spanish. [1]

4.3 Mandatory Information on Stickers

After contacting authorities from SAG [3], they mentioned that it is not allowed to use stickers to adapt labels since the product must be commercialized in Chile with the label approved by SAG.

4.4 Product Legal Name

There is no product legal name for the overall category of "General Feed". Refer to the below section for info on product legal names for specific products.

Product

The potential product's legal name would be: "Formulated Additive". [1]

Note: it is worth stressing that the legal denomination/classification of the product must coincide with that granted by SAG (described Resolution authorizing the Dossier of the product).

4.5 Product-specific Labeling Statements

There are no product-specific labeling statements for the overall category of “General Feed”. Refer to the below category and product-specific labeling statements. 

Category

"Uso exclusivo en alimentación animal" ("Exclusive Use in Animal Feed") [1]

In the case that the additive whose use is prohibited for a certain species or physiological state, as well as those of complete feeds, supplements, or formulated additives that incorporate it, shall include prominently on the labeling the following:

• "PROHIBIDO SU USO EN LA ALIMENTACIÓN DE..... (especie o estado fisiológico prohibidos)" ("PROHIBITED FOR USE IN THE FEEDING OF..... (prohibited species or physiological state)") [1]

“Formulated Additive” should comply with Section 4.5 on “Category” above. 

4.6 Authority Approval

General Feed 

Yes, the product label needs to be approved by the authority - Sub-Department of the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG). 

This procedure is carried out during the Dossier Authorization. [2] For this purpose, the following must be submitted:

1. Original label of the product used in the country of origin.
2. Draft of the label to be used in Chile, in Spanish, in accordance with the provisions of the Title IV of the Animal Feed Regulations, Decree N°4/2016 [1].
3. List of ingredients as they will be presented on the label to be used in Chile, in Word format (only for products intended for slaughter species).

Cost: There is no extra fee for the label approval. The corresponding fees for the Dossier Authorization include the label approval. [1,2]

Category

The category of “Additive” should comply with the above requirements in Section 4.6 on authority approval for “General Feed”.

“Formulated Additive” should comply with the above requirements in Section 4.6 on authority approval for “General Feed”.
