Coffee beverages such as iced coffee, iced expresso drinks, drip coffee, cold brew and nitro coffees, and hot expresso drinks, that are prepared and packaged in food services, restaurants, or any other point of sale, at the consumer's request are not regulated as final products in Brazil, but as prepared foods. 

The regulations for processed products only apply to industrialized packaged foods such as canned or bottled products, among others. 

Based on the above-mentioned information, it is understood that the coffee beverages would be considered as prepared foods (also includes beverages) and no classification was established for them.

2.2 Product & Definition

According to Resolution N° 216/2004 [1] which provides on Technical Regulation on Good Practices for Food Services, the products of interest correspond to the regulatory category of “Prepared foods”. This also included prepared beverages.

Definition

Prepared food: are foods handled and prepared in food services, displayed for sale packaged or not, subdivided into three categories:

  1. Cooked foods, kept warm and exposed to consumption;
  2. Cooked foods, kept chilled, frozen, or at room temperature, which may or may not need to be heated before consumption; 
  3. Raw food, kept refrigerated or at room temperature, exposed to consumption.
