Animal Feed
Mexico

This section provides the regulatory definition of the feed category in scope, or the appropriate feed category for the product in scope. Additionally, it provides the feed products that belong to this feed category along with the definition and specific information on each of these types of feed products.
In addition, this section evaluates the specific feed category for the product in scope.
2.1 Category Name & Definition
Category Name
Animal Feeds (non-medicated are exempted from registration and authorization products)
Definition
Animal Feeds: Any substance or group of substances containing nutritional elements for animal feeding, including those that in some way favor their ingestion and use.
Specific definition for non-medicated products that are exempted from registration and authorization: Those that are not harmful to public health and do not represent an animal health and environmental risk, such as animal feed or premixes; formulated only with grains and fodder, or fish by-products or fishmeal, or vitamins or minerals or amino acids. This includes chemical products for hygiene and beauty, herbal products that do not have therapeutic properties, additives, supplements, complements, chewable products based on meat, medical devices, artifacts, accessories, or objects intended for the identification or containment of animals and which are currently regulated by this Secretariat (SENASICA).
2.2 Product & Definition
The regulation does not provide specific product categories and definitions like in other Latin American Markets. The product definition can be used for products falling in several risk categories based on the product composition (presence of medical substances), information on the label (claims or therapeutical indications), and origin of the ingredients (mainly from animal origin).
