This section provides an overview of the Authorities involved in setting regulations and managing compliance with the food product in scope.

Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) [1] 

The MFDS is the primary food regulatory authority. It is responsible for the safety of both domestic and imported food products. The MFDS sets the regulations and codes for food safety, conducts inspections, and oversees the import procedures overseas to ensure that imported foods meet Korean safety and quality standards. Not only does the MFDS develop and administer these regulations and codes, but it also enforces them.

Korea Customs Service (KCS) [2]

The KCS plays a critical role in the import process, handling the customs clearance of imported goods, including food. They work in collaboration with the MFDS to enforce regulations at the border, ensuring that imported food complies with national standards and regulations. 

Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) [3]

The MEF plays a critical role in planning, drafting, and coordinating tax policies and systems, including the liquor tax. The Enforcement Decree of the Liquor Act (Presidential Decree) outlines the specific regulations and procedures necessary for implementing the Liquor Act, as established by the President.
