Food Directorate – Health Canada
The Food Directorate is a section of Health Canada that is responsible for assessing health risks and benefits, setting standards, policies, and regulations; and providing information regarding the safety and nutritional quality of foods [1]. Pre-market consultation and review of product notifications are services undertaken by the Food Directorate.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency
A mandate of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is to safeguard health and well-being by mitigating risks to food safety [2]. The CFIA has the authority to enforce provisions of Canada’s Food and Drugs Act, Food and Drugs Regulations, Safe Food for Canadians Act, and Safe Food for Canadians Regulations to ensure the safety and nutritional quality of the food supply and compliance with food labeling requirements.
